Bob Wolfman: Hottest band in the area
What can you say about one unbelievably talented guitarist/singer/songwriter and his band consisting of five of the most seasoned pro veteran musicians around? Well..."These guys are freakin' hot." That's what I'm sayin', and the Boston Globe says, "Bob Wolfman is simply one of the best guitarists in the U.S. today, great vocals too." The Village Voice said, "An intense, fiery and passionate player with soulful vocals...ya' gotta see this guy." Bob and his and play some of the hottest Blues, Rock, and Rock/Jazz fusion that you'll hear anywhere...and it's danceable. The band also emphasizes three and four part vocal harmonies.
The Bob Wolfman Band members' resumes all read like a who's who book, starting with Bob Wolfman himself. Bob began doing studio work in Manhattan in his teens back in the seventies and began playing, touring and recording with many of the Rock, Blues and Jazz giants. People like guitarist Larry Coryell Jazz/Rock fusion pioneer, keyboard genius Chick Corea, and the ever popular sax hero Grover Washington, Jr., Blues harmonica legend Mike'Turk' Richards, Blues icon James Montgomery, and on and on. You can check out sound clip samples for yourself at www.myspace/bobwolfman and at www.wolfmanband.com Music Gallery.
Bob fronted his own band in New England for the last twenty five years, and after relocating to Northern New Jersey last year he has rapidly developed a loyal following, playing for packed venues, nightclubs, events and colleges throughout New Jersey. I had the very fortunate opportunity to catch this band at The Fountain House in Fredon, New Jersey back in April. What a show. They were cookin'. Keyboardist Tran Whitley had performed with Boz Scaggs and Missing Persons, Tom Petty. He's one of the most versatile players I've ever seen or heard. Switching from piano to organ to synthesizer and playing full horn section parts one minute, the guy plays a mean boogie, the next a tender ballad with sweet Classical or Jazz flavorings, and still the next he's laying down a grinding Rock organ solo peppered with horn stabs on the synth. Drummer Jeff Lutz formerly touring with Cher, Wayne Cochran, and Tommy Newsom from the old Tonight Show, locks the rhythm section down tight. Mean drum chops and as funky as Dave Garibaldi from Tower Of Power. Bassist Peter Roberts formerly with The Lynn Livingston Band, Conscious Pilot and Rainbow Waves played some of the funkiest grooves with power, but still had amazing taste and finesse. Finally, sax player "Jumpin" Jay Leslie of The Tokens and ShaNaNa played some some mighty tasty sax licks and fierce solos. Once again, what can you say? Go see and hear this band for yourself. They're back at The Fountain House In Fredon, on Rt.94 in Fredon, this Saturday, June 28., from 9:00 pm till midnite. Call 973-590-6680 for details.
Recently The Bob Wolfman Band performed at the 21st annual "Gooch's Garlic Run" at The Rockaway Mall in Rockaway, on Wednesday June 18. This was a fundraising event to help children with serious medical needs and includeded a late afternoon motorcycle run from Rockaway into NYC's "Little Italy" lead by the Blues Knights.
When interviewing Bob Wolfman I learned some very interesting info about his history as a music educator. Bob established his own music school in Boston which served as a prep school for his Alma Mater The Berklee College of Music. Bob offers private and group instruction for guitar and bass here in the Northern New Jersey area 973-383-1197. He also offers a highly interactive guitar course for beginners and intermediate players online at www.wolfmans.com
